Calls for Transparency and Public Accountability in Local Budget Process
Iligan City – In line with its advocacy for transparency and good governance, the Iligan Anti-Corruption Tribune (IACT) has formally submitted a request to the Local Government of Iligan for access to the proposed 2026 Annual Budget and the official schedule of budget deliberations.
The request aims to ensure that the people of Iligan are fully informed on how public funds are being planned, allocated, and utilized. The organization emphasized that open access to budget documents is a cornerstone of democratic governance and public accountability.
“Transparency in public spending is not merely a privilege it is a right of every citizen,” said the IACT statement. “We urge our local leaders to make the budget deliberation process accessible to the public, so Iliganons can see clearly how every peso of taxpayers’ money will be spent.”
The Iligan Anti-Corruption Tribune reiterated its commitment to monitor, report, and inform the public about government transactions and decisions that affect the community’s welfare. The group also called on civic organizations, the media, and concerned citizens to participate in promoting openness and accountability within the local government.
“Good governance begins with transparency. We believe that an informed citizenry is the strongest defense against corruption,” the group added.
